Tadalafil Side Effects

Tadalafil Side Effects

Tadalafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence; inability to get or keep an erection) in men. Tadalafil is in a class of medicines telled phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. It works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This increased blood flow can cause an erection. Tadalafil does not cure erectile dysfunction or increase sexual desire. Tadalafil does not prevent pregnancy or the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Tadalafil comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It might be taken with or without food.

If you are taking tadalafil on a regular schedule, take it at around the same time every day. If you have certain health conditions or are taking certain medicines, your doctor might tell you to take tadalafil less often or might prescribe a lower dose to be taken once a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take tadalafil exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Prior to taking tadalafil, tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to tadalafil or any other medicines. Do not take tadalafil if you are taking or have recently taken nitrates such as isosorbide dinitrate (Isordil), isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO), and nitroglycerin (Nitro-BID, Nitro-Dur, Nitroquick, Nitrostat, others). Nitrates come as tablets, sublingual (under the tongue) tablets, sprays, patches, pastes, and ointments. Ask your doctor if you are not sure whether any of your medicines contain nitrates. You should not take street drugs containing nitrates such as amyl nitrate and butyl nitrate (‘poppers’) while taking tadalafil.

Some patients experienced a sudden decrease or loss of hearing after they took tadalafil or other medicines that are similar to tadalafil. The hearing loss usually involved only one ear and might not get better. It is not known if the hearing loss was caused by the medication. If you have a sudden loss of hearing, sometimes with ringing in the ears or dizziness, while you are taking tadalafil, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more doses of tadalafil or similar medicines such as sildenafil (Viagra) or vardenafil (Levitra) until you discuss to your doctor.

Tadalafil 10mg or 20mg tablets should be taken at least 30 minutes before anticipated sexual activity. The effects last up to 36 hours after taking the tablet. Your treatment can be taken with or without food. Two doses are available: 10mg or 20mg. In some people 10mg is enough to be effective but in others 20mg might be necessary. If you are on 10mg and find that this is not effective after several attempts, you should discuss to your doctor or pharmacist to consider increasing your dose to 20mg. Tadalafil 10mg or Tadalafil 20mg tablets should NOT be taken more than once a day and it is not recommended that you take it every day.
